Unsolicited Mail Donation from UNICEF Malaysia

Getting spamming e-mail is Not uncommon nowadays. Those spammer not only spam the e-mail but your mailbox too.

Recently, I got letter from UNICEF Malaysia asking for some donation.

To my knowledge, I never gave any of my contact detail or allow UNICEF(any other parties too)  to contact me.

unicef

If I never gave any approval then by right, no one can contact me for whatever marketing purposes.

Therefore, I wrote to UNICEF Malaysia about this.

This is the reply I got from UNICEF Malaysia:

”Dear Alan,

Thank you for your email and support in UNICEF.

You might have at some point sign up for a contest, club membership or services to allow for direct marketing.

However, there is no obligation to make a donation and we will remove the name from our mailing list as per your request.

Thank you once again.

Regards,
Donor Relations Team

At the same time, I request my detail to be opt out from their mailing list which they did by replying as stated below.

”Dear Alan,

Thank you for your reply.

We have removed your name from our mailing list as per your request.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Sincerely,
Donor Relations Team

I’m NOT against any Direct Marketing method!

However it MUST include a Short and Simple Information on HOW to be opt out. This’s very similar like what we have in e-mail where it has an UNSUBSCRIBE button!

I’m not sure how effective is the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA) which come in force starting from 15 November 2013.

The main objective of this act is to protect the personal data of individuals with respect to commercial transactions.

P/S: Do request for opt out if you are NOT keen to the Offer received.
